What are the Different Types of Threads Used?

Non-absorbable threads, also known as permanent threads, used to be popular due to their long-lasting effects, but they are not commonly used nowadays for a few reasons:

  1. Dealing with complications can be tricky and might need surgical intervention. For instance, if a thread becomes dislodged or causes infection, it may require removal through surgery, which can be both complex and risky.
  2. There are long-term safety concerns about foreign materials causing inflammation or adverse reactions. Permanent threads can sometimes lead to chronic inflammation, granuloma formation, or other adverse tissue reactions that compromise the safety and aesthetics of the procedure.

On the positive side, absorbable threads have gained popularity due to technological and material advancements. These threads gradually dissolve in the body, encouraging collagen production for a natural lift without the risks associated with permanent threads. The materials used in absorbable threads include:

  1. Polylactic Acid (PLA): It breaks down in about 6-12 months and promotes collagen production, gradually enhancing skin elasticity and firmness.
  2. Polycaprolactone (PCL): This material lasts longer in the body for 1-2 years and promotes collagen production, providing a more prolonged lifting effect.
  3. Polydioxanone (PDO): Typically dissolves within 6-7 months and minimally stimulates collagen synthesis. PDO threads are often used for their safety profile and effective results in various cosmetic procedures.
  4. Hyaluronic acid (HA): Enhances collagen production and restores youthful radiance to the skin. HA is known for its hydrating properties, making the skin appear more plump and hydrated.

Aptos threads combine the beneficial properties of Polylactic acid and Polycaprolactone. They are absorbed within 1.5 to 2 years, offering immediate lifting and long-term collagen stimulation. These materials are also blended with Hyaluronic acid, unavailable in Australia. Combining these materials aims to provide a comprehensive approach to skin rejuvenation and lifting.
